Paul Hospenthal
Paul Hospenthal is a licensed physical therapist, certified athletic trainer, and certified strength and conditioning specialist, who has trained athletes in all major sports. He has traveled with the PGA Tour to more than 100 golf tournaments worldwide, including The Masters, The PGA Championship, The U.S. Open, and The British Open. Some of the world's greatest golfers participate in these tournaments. These are athletes who push their physical abilities to the limit, and are often in need of therapy.
In 1993, Paul opened The Desert Institute of Physical Therapy in Scottsdale, Arizona, for amateur and professional athletes, and for other persons who believe they can benefit from physical therapy. He also continues to travel with the Oakland Athletics baseball team, and with touring professional golfers on a limited basis. In addition, he devotes some of his time to public speaking engagements, focusing on fundamental fitness exercises, and stretching and strengthening techniques.

Paul also writes for Golf Magazine and has contributed to a number of other publications, including Golf for Dummies. And, recently, he founded "Golf Fitness," a company committed to increasing golfers' performance, and to improving the best piece of equipment they have - their bodies.
Bonnie Kurth
Bonnie Kurth, who joined the Institute in 1994, also is a licensed physical therapist. She holds degrees in Physical Therapy and Athletic Training from the Mayo Clinic and from Gustavus Adolphus College.
Before moving to Arizona, Bonnie was the physical therapist with the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour. Like their counterparts on the PGA Tour, the athletes on the LPGA Tour also are prone to injuries, which can benefit from physical therapy. In addition to her work at the Institute, Bonnie continues to work with LPGA professionals on a limited basis, and enjoys taking continuing education classes for updated, advanced therapy techniques.
Laurie Mackler
Laurie Mackler also is a licensed physical therapist. She holds a degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Laurie moved to Arizona from Springfield, Massachusetts 20 years ago. Prior to joining the staff of The Desert Institute of Physical Therapy, she worked in various clinical settings, before deciding to specialize in sports medicine and orthopedics. She is well known among Valley sports enthusiasts for her innovative approach to physical therapy, and for her success in treating their injuries, and improving their strength and endurance.
Robb Blackaby
Robb Blackaby is a licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer. He received his Bachelor of Exercise Science degree from the University of Arizona and his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Physical Therapy from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He has provided sports medicine services for the ESPN X Games, the 2002 Winter Olympics, Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour, the US Snowboarding Team, and Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding and Snowboarding contests. Most recently, Robb toured as Physical Therapist for the PGA, LPGA and Champions Golf Tours. Robb brings a very strong background in sports medicine and the development of functional activities to return patients to their prior lifestyles.
Dorothy McGuinness
Dorothy McGuinness is a graduate of Northern Arizona University's Physical Therapy program. Dorothy worked in Saudi Arabia where she developed a technician-training program, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia, for the benefit of educating local citizens. She has developed a back education and training program called Facts About Backs, which can be utilized in different work and rehabilitation situations. Recently, she has developed a system for healing and balancing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of life, which is being detailed in her upcoming book, "Simple Healing, Five Steps to Heal the Body and Soul". Her current emphasis includes craniosacral therapy, a form of hands on healing, and work with shock and trauma in addition to a strong orthopedic background.
Corey Hug
Corey Hug is a licensed Physical Therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He received his Bachelor of Exercise Science degree from Truman State University and his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He has provided sports medicine services for the ESPN Summer and Winter X Games. Prior to joining the Desert Institute of Physical Therapy, Corey has worked in Aspen, Boston, and Chicago in various acute and clinical settings with focus in orthopedic trauma, sports injury, and rehabilitation. Corey brings a very strong medical background to our clinic.
Craig Coats
Craig Coats is a licensed Certified Athletic Trainer who received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Indianapolis. He has a strong orthopedic and sports medicine background with experience working with both recreational and professional athletes. He is also a certified golf fitness instructor with knowledge and experience through many facets of the golf industry. He is adept in planning rehabilitation programs emphasizing strength, proprioception, flexibility, and endurance. His previous work experiences have helped shape his unique perspective for the active individual and athlete alike.
Kim Nelson
Kim Nelson is a licensed massage therapist. Kim earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and became certified in Massage Therapy at The Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In addition to the program, Kim received her certification in Neuromusculature Massage Therapy. To continue her education, she also became certified in Pre and Perinatal Massage. Before moving to Scottsdale, she was employed by Neuromuscular Therapeutics, where her focus was motor vehicle accident victims and worker’s compensation injuries. Kim has also worked with athletes in various events in Colorado Springs such as the Garden of the Gods run and The Pikes Peak Marathon.
